This page includes information on the TESOL/TEFL certification, the online ITTT course, and/or submitting proof of certification if previously certified.

KAEC will enroll you in the ITTT online certificate course, no purchases on your end required. I received the link to begin Nov. 12 and received my completion certificate Dec. 11. On paper it is a 120 hour course, but it will not take you nearly that long. Depending on your pre-existing familiarity with the subject material, each unit could take you any time between 20 minutes and 2 hours. There are 20 total units; half of them cover soft skills like managing a classroom and establishing rapport with students, while the other half covers hard skills like detailed grammar concepts and specific English language subjects. The test to pass each unit contains 12-20 multiple choice questions and a written 100-word summary of the unit’s material.

From November 13 email:

"For ETAs with Certification:

If you already have TESOL/TEFL certification meeting or exceeding 120-hours, please submit proof of certification to Content Snare by the deadline. Proof of certification can be one or all the following:

• TESOL/TEFL Degree (BA or MA only--a minor in TESOL without a certificate is not acceptable)

• Certification Course Transcript

• 120+hour TESOL/TEFL Certificate

KAEC does not reimburse ETAs who have pursued certification on their own, even certification through ITTT post-grant acceptance. This also includes any certification that may have been done in preparation for the ETA grant application. If you received a minor in TESOL/TEFL, your university must supply a certificate attesting that the coursework meets or exceeds 120 contact hours.

If your documentation doesn't meet the standard, KAEC will enroll you in the course.

For ETAs without Certification:

All ETAs who do not have TESOL/TEFL certification must be certified before coming to Korea. Do not purchase or enroll in any ITTT course while you wait for your registration email. There is no certification cost to you. KAEC will pay for and take care of enrollment procedures. Please note the following:

• The course will be taught asynchronously; you can finish it at your own pace. Generally, ETAs

complete the course in 2-4 weeks, depending on their experience. Please take note of practices

that you think will be helpful in the classroom.

• You will receive your registration information from ITTT to your primary e-mail address.

• You must be TESOL/TEFL certified before the start of the program! We highly suggest that

you finish your certification course before the deadline as you will be quite busy with the

holidays and preparing for departure after that time.

• After finishing the course, you should send certificates to the KAEC Office in Seoul using the free shipping/lowest cost option provided by ITTT. DO NOT send certificates to the U.S. Please

submit your completion email or tracking information to KAEC when you finish so we know to be

on the lookout for the incoming package. If you accidentally sent it to your house in the U.S., please forward it to our office in Seoul with tracking so it doesn't get lost."

ADDITIONAL MATERIALS:

Here are some downloadable supplementary ITTT materials that you may find useful when searching and applying for jobs in teaching English as a foreign language:

There is a website that contains some helpful jobs and teaching resource information, but it is password protected and the password is only given to those who have completed the course so I will not be sharing it here. But I linked the website for those who have already completed the course and have the password to access it.
